Surrounded by boys.....and Ms.B

Welcome to my blog. I've called it 'A House of Hawes' as I am completely surrounded by Hawes' people, a scary (albeit fun) thought at times. Even the dogs have that last name registered. We've decided to go the blog route instead of our website so we can keep things updated easier as the 'Will and Nate' story continues....what a story it's turning out to be!

Sun, sand, sand, sun...and more sun

The fun continues....

We have continued to do a lot of exploring around the island. As the waves are quite rough and high in Kihei (where we are staying), the boys have been quite intimidated by the beach. Before we left, I had done some research on 'baby friendly' beaches - I had come across one actually called 'Baby Beach' (it's official name is Puunoa Beach) in Lahaina. It is so baby friendly because of a big coral reef that acts as a shore break so the 'waves' are tiny. The boys have been very happy with this find...we have been twice so far. No doubt a few more trips will be had before we leave. They like looking for fish in the water. We have seen a few. However, if you ask Nate, he will give you live commentary saying 'oh, there's a crocodile - oh, there's a turtle. oh yeah, there's a butterfly'. I better get my eyes checked 'cause I'm not seeing quite the same creatures as he is.

Maui - the fun continues

We are very much getting used to this lifestyle - up before 6AM (ok, maybe not getting used to that part), at the beach or somewhere outside by 7AM, nap at noon (not the grown-ups), pool in the afternoon, in bed by 9PM. It is very, very hot here - so hot that in the afternoon the sand at the beach is too hot for the boys to walk on. We learned that October is the hottest month in Maui (who knew?) and this has been an unseasonably hot summer for them....sounds like home. Temperatures have been 30 degrees but with the humidity it feels like 37 degrees. However, not too hard to take when you have a pool or ocean at your disposal.

More pics to show you what we have been up to...

Patiently waiting to go

We found a park!!

Hot, hot, hot...at 8AM

Will's becoming a fan of the beach...Nate, not so much. He loves playing with the sand, as long as his feet don't have to touch it.

Ready to go to the pool

They LOVE the pool!

I'm sexy and I know it....

Bananas! Dave and I tried to tell them they weren't bananas but they were having none of that.

Maui 2012....first big family vacation to the tropics

We have definitely found a little piece of paradise. The views are spectacular, weather is perfect and there is no shortage of family friendly things to do. Throw in a Walmart and Costco for convenience, and life is pretty perfect. Our condo is perfect, and the only downside is a busy road between us and the ocean but that seems to be the case for all of the houses 'on the beach'. The first picture below was taken from our living room. Other pics below are from a 'nature' walk, a trip to the Maui Ocean Aquarium (Fantastic) and a few random shots...

Dinner!

Stopped to get a cold Starbucks when Will promptly woke up and stole my drink - I had three sips. He drank the Grande buy himself - "MINE!". Luckily, it was a vanilla frappucino with no coffee!

Toddler hip-hop 2012

Will is well known in our house for his fashion sense and stubborness...when he wants to wear something, he wears it! Found him on the couch tonight, drinking his milk, wearing his Dad's hat which he found somewhere and put on himself, and watching tv. Once he realized the camera was aimed in his direction, he was only too happy to show off....
